Why a Multidiscipliniary, Face-To-Face Assessment Matters

Children show us their real communication, sensory needs, and interaction style in person, not on a screen.

Many private assessments are led solely by psychology or psychiatry. While these clinicians play an important role, autism is a developmental disability and a form of neurodiversity — not a mental illness.

Although it can influence mental health, autism primarily affects communication, interaction, sensory processing, and how a child experiences the world.

This is why a whole‑child, multidisciplinary assessment provides a more accurate, meaningful diagnostic process — giving families a complete picture, not a narrow view.

A fully multidisciplinary team — Paediatrician + Speech and Language Therapist + Occupational Therapist — means your child is understood from every angle:

  • developmental

  • medical

  • communication

  • sensory

  • emotional

  • functional

  • real‑world behaviour

Your child is understood across:

  • Developmental profile

  • Medical and regulatory needs

  • Communication and social interaction

  • Sensory processing

  • Emotional regulation

  • Functional and daily‑living skills

  • Real‑world behaviour at home and school

PLUS:

  • Whole‑child, not mental‑health‑only

  • Multidisciplinary interpretation

  • Face‑to‑face, nuanced observation

  • Clear, integrated diagnostic conclusions

Combined Autism & ADHD Assessments

Many children show traits of both autism and ADHD.

Understanding how these profiles overlap is essential for an accurate diagnosis and meaningful support.

Our combined assessment brings together a Paediatrician, Speech and Language Therapist, and Occupational Therapist to give you one clear, integrated picture of your child.

Why a Combined Assessment Matters

Autism and ADHD often interact in ways that affect:

  • attention and focus

  • emotional regulation

  • communication and social interaction

  • sensory processing

  • learning and participation

  • behaviour at home and school

A combined pathway avoids conflicting conclusions, reduces duplication, and provides one unified diagnostic outcome.

The combined assessment includes:

Parent consultation & developmental history

  • Structured exploration of early development, communication, behaviour, sensory needs, attention, impulsivity, and regulation.

Paediatric assessment (face‑to‑face)

  • Developmental profile, attention and executive functioning, behaviour and regulation, medical history, autism and ADHD indicators, and differential diagnosis.

Communication & social interaction assessment (ADOS‑2, SLT‑led)

  • Social communication, interaction, play, sensory responses, masking, strengths, and support needs. Includes a communication questionnaire.

Sensory, functional & regulation observation (OT‑led)

  • School or home observation focusing on sensory processing, regulation, motor planning, functional impact, and participation.

ADHD rating scales (Conners)

  • Completed by parents and school to provide a full picture across settings.

Multidisciplinary team discussion

  • Paediatrician + SLT + OT combine findings to determine autism, ADHD, both, or an alternative explanation.

Feedback session & written report
